FOBT Testing Kit
FOBT saves life.
It is a screening tool and it detects blood in the stool sample which the naked eye cannot detect.
National bowel screening: Starts age 50 and ends at age 74. A bowel screening kit is sent every 2 years.
It is a screening tool in asymptomatic patients, not in symptomatic patients e.g. patients with symptoms of rectal bleeding, altered bowel etc .
Only 40% of Australians participated in bowel screening program when the kits were sent to them. The highest uptake was seen in Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, where 59% participated and the lowest participation was noted in Halls Creek, Western Australia, at just 8%.
