Colorectal Cancer Surgery

Colorectal Cancers

Treatment of colorectal cancer depends on the size, location, and stage of the cancer. Surgery is the main modality of treatment.

Open Colectomy

A midline incision is made in the abdomen and the involved segment is remove.

Most of my colectomies are performed using minimally invasive techniques.

e.g. Laparoscopic or Robotic colectomy.

Laparoscopic and Robotic Colectomy

It is a minimally invasive technique where small incisions are made.  A laparoscope, a telescopic video camera used to see the inside of the abdomen, is inserted through an incision. Small surgical instruments are passed through the other incisions and the affected segment of the colon is removed. The healthy ends of the colon are reattached and all the incisions are closed with sutures.
